About Rachel Jansen
Painting is more than creating an image to me; it is a way of capturing stories, emotions, and character. As a self-taught artist, I have developed my own distinctive style through years of experimentation, constantly challenging myself and never settling for "good enough."
Before dedicating myself fully to painting, I worked for many years as a professional makeup artist. That experience taught me to truly observe faces: how light shapes expression, how a single glance can convey emotion, and how the smallest details can make the greatest impact. Those skills continue to influence every painting I create.
My work consists of powerful, realistic portraits in which emotion, culture, and human expression take center stage. I work exclusively with oil paint on premium-quality linen canvas, paying meticulous attention to composition, light, contrast, and detail. My goal is to create artwork that not only captures attention but continues to reveal new details every time it is viewed.
I do not believe in creating copies or following trends. Every painting is an original work of art, created from my own vision with an uncompromising commitment to craftsmanship, authenticity, and quality.
Having one of my original paintings become part of country artist Warren Zeiders' personal collection is a milestone I look back on with great pride. At the same time, I see it primarily as motivation to keep pushing my artistic boundaries and continue evolving as an artist.
Every painting begins with a blank canvas. What follows is guided by intuition, dedication, and thousands of brushstrokes—until it becomes more than a portrait; it becomes a story.
